Irma Rangel Panthers hosted a recruiting festival this week to attract new players to the lacrosse team and interest younger players in starting a middle school feeder team. The festival took place in the field house across from the school.
Members of the Ursuline Academy varsity and JV teams and their coach, Lori Wales, assisted with the festival running games, relays and contests of all kinds. Every attendee received several free gifts, compliments of local corporations, and winners of the various events received prizes including new lacrosse sticks, goggles, and gloves as well as some silly prizes like squirt guns, play dough and squeegee balls.
New head lacrosse coach at Rangel, Stephanie Walker, got a quick introduction to the enthusiasm and determination of Panther team members when she assisted in running some of the relays. Said Walker, "I was impressed with the girls' stick skills. They were beyond what I expected."
After healthy snacks were served, the festival ended with a drawing for an iPod Touch. Karen Digno was the big winner of the raffle, taking home the prize everyone was hoping to win.
